Winter is a time when many cultures celebrate ancestors and departed loved ones, and magic is in the air. Talismans have been part of every tradition to keep magic, health, or special inspiration close. They are believed to provide hope and encouragement through difficult times, or bring good luck.
We can all use a powerful reminder of our self, belief, trust and calm.
An amulet, talisman or charm is a personal ornament, which because of something inherent in the object (it's shape, material or color), is believed to endow its wearer with special powers or capabilities.
In this workshop you will learn how to create a mini pendant/pouch from special scraps of up-cycled fabrics. With the option to sew your talisman to a large pin and wear it as a badge of memory or attach to fabric cording to wear around your neck.
We will fill these tiny talismans with dried lavender/dried rose petals and/or your own personal items. You'll learn about basic embroidery stitches to embellish your work.
All materials are provided, though participants are welcome to bring mementos such as tiny pictures or other small, meaningful items to sew into their talisman, to personalize their unique piece.
No previous experience necessary. All materials provided
(tho I highly suggest bringing an apron and your glasses!)

ABOUT MOLLY C. MENG
Molly C. Meng studied literature with a personal minor in collecting other people's lives. An obsession with old ledgers, vintage photos. and every single discarded book that exists, her work reimagines the untold stories behind the otherwise forgotten items of every day.
A self-taught artist, the medium of collage in both paper and textiles is Molly's dominant form of communicating. She successfully weaves the elements of ephemera and storytelling into each piece she creates.
The spectacular beauty of the ordinary is elevated with detail in her work. Molly's work has shown nationally in both museums and galleries located in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Wisconsin and Montana. She has produced large scale commissions for interior designers, personal homes and a number of Prometheus apartment complexes in Northern California.
Other than creating her own artwork, Molly helps adults and young people lean into their unique talent by teaching creative workshops around the U.S. as well as on an annual retreat in the South of France. Molly C. Meng is currently living and working in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
