MusicalArts Academy Summer Youth Theatre Camp: Session 2
Join us for a week whirlwind of singing, dancing, acting and more! Campers will work with professional artists from all around the Seacoast, and learning a full length musical, culminating with a final performance in the beautiful Word Barn Meadow.

The Midnight Wrens - a special fundraiser for Oscar Grossman
On February 5, Oscar Grossman suffered a devastating fall while working at a job site through the SST school program. He sustained multiple serious injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, fractured neck, back, and skull, and is now undergoing intensive neurological and physical rehabilitation.
Oscar’s life has been forever changed, but his strength and spirit are guiding us all. He is a true warrior. Our family is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and support from our community. With a long road ahead, your continued support means everything.

Oral Storytelling for a Modern Era: an evening of storytelling around the fire with Jake Lewis
Join journeyman storyteller Jake Lewis for an evening of storytelling in the old way that is forever new. With his improvisational style, Jake will take your imagination on a walkabout, where the Otherworld keeps poking up through the gauze of what we think we know. Come and be captivated by two stories that speak to perennial human themes, and with a short reflection after each.
Bring a chair or blanket, and your appetite for marvels.

This workshop is for those of you who are ready to connect to your inner peace, while discovering your inner artist. Yes! You have an inner artist and this workshop will help you connect to them.

Cyanotype: Explorations in Blue & Beyond
Building on the skills of the previously held cyanotype workshop, this workshop will focus on photographic imagery, using vintage glass negatives I’ve collected in France over the years.
Students also have an opportunity, before the workshop begins, to create one of their own photos into a negative image that can be printed in cyan. In this workshop, we will also explore toning our prints in a variety of solutions, which will leave us with imagery in multiple color ways.

Block Printing Workshop
Block Printing is one of the oldest types of printmaking -it's been around for thousands of years. Come explore this ancient craft...
Join artist & teacher Molly Meng where you will learn to design and carve your very own "block" for printing on fabric and paper. We’ll learn about transferring images, designing your own, building repeat patterns. You'll have a full introduction to the various supplies and tools that can be used in this exciting process and bring home your uniquely designed block to use over and over.
All materials are provided --You may want to bring an apron and your glasses!

Heartland Masala Book Launch & Talk
Join us for a special and inspiring evening that celebrates the launch of the playful, informative, and utterly original cookbook by Auyon Mukharji (Darlingside) and Jyoti Mukharji (Auyon’s mother).
Heartland Masala pairs 99 recipes from Indian cooking instructor, Jyoti Mukharji with cultural and historical essays by Auyon Mukharji for an effervescent celebration of Indian cuisine and the American immigrant experience.
Each attendee will leave with one of four specially curated spice jars that are talked about during the evening.
The discussion will be moderated by Chef Keith Sarasin who holds a special passion and knowledge of Indian history, culture, and cuisine that drives his own take on dishes.

Matt Heckler
Matt Heckler is a solo multi-instrumentalist that barely fits into any ordinary musical category. He tends to keep to the darker side of Appalachian mountain music and early bluegrass but listen long enough and you’ll soon be transported to the mountains of EasternEurope or a dimly lit bar in Ireland where they honor those who have passed with a gently swaying a cappella ballad.

The Tannahill Weavers
Traditional Celtic music at its best! With fire-driven instrumentals and songs, haunting ballads and a good dose of humor, the Tannahill Weavers have transformed traditional Scottish material and brought it into the modern world, vitally alive and kicking.

Weaving Workshop
Weaving, one of humans’ oldest crafts, is still “transversing a set of parallel threads at right angles.” Learning the concepts of the warp and the weft are a particular craft elevated to an art. As with any media, weaving demands an understanding of the interaction between medium and process which then develops into form.
Learning to cultivate a color sense and design discipline, as well as exploring different shapes and patterns will be covered in this workshop. Participants will learn the basic concepts while using paper and then will build their own mini-loom to continue weaving with yarn, fabric and objects from nature. A wonderful goal in getting the most out of weaving is accessing a ‘weavers mind’.

European Water Marbling
Whether you’ve tried suminigashi or not, you’ll want to dive into these very different vats of floating inks!
This ancient mono-printing process involves floating acrylic pigment on the surface of thickened (“sized”) water to create patterns which can then be transferred onto paper or fabric. We’ll cover the materials and tools and the basics of your set up. We’ll even be making some tools of our own to use in this workshop!

Finding Voice in Food and Memoir Writing Workshop

Voice is at the heart of what distinguishes good writing from great writing. How do you find your voice (and not mimic others)? This will be the focus of our workshop.

Jake Xerxes Fussell is a singer, guitarist, and composer based in Durham, NC. His intuitive creative process often draws from traditional music and archival field recordings - incorporating elements of songs from the past into new work.
He is, according to Ann Powers of NPR, "maybe the leading interpreter of American folk music right now..."

Cyanotype Workshop
Learn to practice the "magic" of this monochrome printing process which produces cyan-blue colored prints. It’s a joyously fun day composing, exposing, and developing ‘photographs’ using this alternative printing process invented in the 1800's.
In this workshop, we will discuss the history of Cyanotypes, create bespoke images with solar- ready material using the same chemical mixture Sir John Herschel invented in 1842 for this camera-less printing process. On this day, students will work with both fabric and paper to make lasting photographic imagery. You'll create works from the natural world inspired by Anna Atkins, considered the first female photographer, who created her own cyan prints in 1843, and experiment with composition using 3-d objects

Suminagashi Workshop (Japanese Water Marbling)
Suminigashi aka Japanese Paper Marbling is the ancient Japanese technique of decorating paper with inks. It is believed to be the oldest form of marbling, originating in China over 2,000 years ago and practiced in Japan by Shinto priests as early as the 12th century.
Suminagashi (sue-me-NAH-gah-she), which means literally “ink-floating” involves doing just that!

BOOM 3: A Burst & Bloom Variety Show
Join us for a very special evening featuring The Burst & Bloom Variety Show Tour - a modern variety show, showcasing the best in contemporary comedy, music, magic, and other forms of live entertainment!
The show will hit five New England cities in May, and will feature different special guests in each city. Tiger Saw serves as the house band, and will perform basement soul originals and carefully-selected covers.
Each night will feature stand-up comedy by Danny Jordan and others. Joel the Wizard will perform close-up and stage magic.
